Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Bono) and are lining up a move for him.
This has come after the injury to their number one goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after he suffered a season ending leg fracture while skiing.
The current German Champions are looking to find an instant replacement for their club captain and they have identified Morocco's heroic goalkeeper as a possible target, according to AS.
Morocco's fairytale journey at the World Cup was cut short on Wednesday evening by France after they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the World Cup semifinal. They became the first African team to achieve this feat and will get the chance to leave Qatar with the bronze medal for their efforts when they face Croatia.
Bono's impressive performances during this run saw them concede only three goals in the entire tournament with two of those coming against the World Champions. Bono was the hero in the round of 16 shootout victory over Spain where he made two penalty saves.
“On behalf of all the players, I want to thank the fans who helped us in this task. I congratulate all the players and I offer this gift to all the Moroccan people.”
“You know penalties, it’s a little bit of intuition, a little bit of luck,” Bounou told reporters after their win against Spain. “We won, that’s the most important thing. Hats off to the whole team – they did the job. It was incredible.
“When you live moments like this, sometimes it’s hard to realise it."
Oliver Khan, who spent his legendary career between the sticks for Bayern Munich and is now their CEO is said to be impressed with the 31-year-old who plays his club football for Sevilla.
Bounou has spent a huge chunk of his career in Spain. His career began in Wydad Casablanca before moving to Spain to join Atletico Madrid. From there he played for Real Zaragoza and then Girona before initially moving on loan to Sevilla in 2019 and becoming a permanent member of the club in 2020.
Bounou has enjoyed a successful time at Sevilla, winning the UEFA Europa League in the 2019/2020 season as well as being part of the Europa League and La Liga teams of the season in the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons respectively.
Another goalkeeper who burst onto the scene at this World Cup in Croatia's Dominik Livakovic has also been mentioned as a potential option.
The goalkeeper who plays for Dinamo Zargreb made a total of four penalty shootout saves in the knockout stages of the World Cup (three of those coming against Japan) has also caught the eye but Oliver Khan seems to have his eyes set on Bono.
